Dear Ambassador Barnett,

Enclosed is a set of documents related to politically motivated repression directed against our family by the Polish authorities. These actions are independent of changes in political power. Poland is essentially a criminal state controlled by people from the same environment as under the strictly Communist rule.

The West was very naive in thinking that Communists, whose state was a criminal organization, gave up power and became democrats. The techniques of deception became more and more sophisticated over time. Changes of 1989-90 were very superficial. Anyone who dares to speak up freely and voice really independent opinions, criticising authorities, is treated like an outcast and is quickly silenced by the same methods as before 1990. It is worth noting that the current Labor Code which applies to each working person in Poland was introduced in 1974 by the Communist regime. It contains a number of provisions designed as tools of political repression. None of political parties after 1990 expressed any desire to throw out the 1974 Labor Code.

The authorities certainly noticed LSB’s blogging activity, at (1) dcdng.blogspot.com and (2) klientnaszpan.blogspot.com, where he published critical views of various political entities. LSB faced various kinds of repressions in academic life continually from the moment of his return to Poland in 1995 after obtaining Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Yours sincerely,

Małgorzata Głuchowska

Lech S. Borkowski, Ph.D.
